NORTH WALSHAM LIVE AID 7th ROCK NIGHT ON SAT 16th April opened in grand style with BLIND TIGER a highly promising young rock band featured many times on Radio Norfolk, full of enthusiasm and gave a performance well ahead of their years. POCKET GODZILLAS followedwith their own brand of original material which they deliver with a “take no prisoners” attitude to rattle your senses.
Third band on were local favourites RAW EDGE who delivered their solid rock cover set in great style delighting the home crowd. Raw Edge have played at nearly every Live, Aid Billy Batchelor also took part in the original event in 1985.
Following on was the Memorabilia auction ,always a popular part of the night with a guitar signed by Mike Rutherford of Genesis raising £210.00 and a signed photo of Queen signed by RogerTaylor realising £170.00 over 30 other lots gave a huge boost to the final figure.
After the auction the second half was opened by SUPER ACTION HEROES Giving a solid and tight performance of classic rock covers, they had arrived hot foot from a previous gig in the afternoon.
The evening was brought to a climax in more ways than one by POUT AT THE DEVIL resplendent in Lycra pants, shades and long hair hammering out Van Halen, Bon Jovi, and many others, this was their first time in North Walsham, certainly not their last.
I want to thank all the bands who perform every year for free and a huge thanks to Paul (titch) of “Rhythmic Sound and Light” for the PA and lighting a major part of the success of the night.
I anticipate being able to present a cheque for £3,000 to the “Cots For Tots “ appeal in the near future.
A final thanks must go to the Community Centre for their support and all the helpers on the night, all those local firms that gave raffle prizes, the local press and radio, and to all the rock stars that support me by donating items every year.
